Basics
Does Chatto cost anything?
No. Chatto is free, open source software under the GPL-3.0. All of its source code is on GitHub.
Which streaming platforms does it support?
Twitch for now. YouTube and Kick are planned.
Does it run on macOS?
Not yet. Chatto runs on Windows 10 and later.
How do I update?
Chatto checks for new versions when it starts and every six hours, and tells you in the title bar and under Settings › About. It downloads only after you agree, then installs when you click “Restart and update” or the next time you quit.
Desktop overlay
Will the overlay get in the way of my game?
No. Clicks pass straight through it. You can only drag it after clicking Adjust on the Outputs page.
I can’t see the overlay in fullscreen games
Exclusive fullscreen covers every always-on-top window. Switch the game to borderless windowed mode.
The overlay shows up in my stream
Display capture records everything on screen, the overlay included. Use game capture or window capture instead.
OBS
Do deleted messages stay on stream?
No. When a moderator deletes a message, bans someone or clears chat, the messages leave the overlay and OBS right away.
What does OBS show while Chatto is closed?
The “Chatto Chat” source shows a waiting screen with the tea cup, and connects by itself once Chatto opens.
The plugin installer says OBS is running
Close OBS, then click Install plugin on the Outputs page again.
Plugin or browser source?
Use the plugin if you can: it needs no URL, each source can pick its own theme, and it shows a waiting screen while Chatto is closed. A browser source also works if you’d rather not install anything into OBS.
Themes
Can the overlay and OBS use different themes?
Yes. Choose one for each on the Outputs page.
How do I share a theme?
Export it on the Themes page as JSON, or as a .chattotheme file that includes its images. The other person imports the file.
Can I write my own CSS?
Yes. Every element has a stable chatto-* class. The editor has autocomplete, and can open your CSS in VS Code with a reference of every class.
Privacy
Where is my streaming account sign-in kept?
Only on your computer, encrypted by Windows. Chatto connects to the platform directly and never sends it anywhere else.
